Reusable Sanitary Pads

In 2020, the Saukhyam team was recognized as the Social Enterprise of the Year for its "exceptional impact, clarity and growth of work dedicated to furthering the UN Sustainable Development Goals" from the Women for India and Social Founder Network coalition.

The reusable cloth sanitary pads are made of 100% cotton. The pad consists of 3 layers, the top layer is attached to the back lining to prevent leakage.

1) To avoid bacterial contamination after use, remember to wash your hands before handling the pad. There are two ways you can clean your pad: 1 Handwash or 2 Machine wash. When it comes to washing, ensure that you do not put too much pressure onto the cloth as it might tear.

2) Rinse off any stains by hand with soap and lay flat to dry on a clothes hanger or clothes drying rack away from direct sunlight within 24 hours. If there are oil-based stains, please treat them immediately using the stain removal method described below.

3) Machine washable cloth pads are designed to be machine-washed at 40 degree celcius. After washing, the pad must not be exposed to direct sunlight within 24 hours and it is best if they can be dryed in shade. It is also important that you do not put too much pressure onto the cloth as they might tear. If there are oil-based stains, please treat them immediately using the stain removal method described below.

4) Hang your reusable sanitary pads on a clothes hanger or clothes drying rack away from direct sunlight within 24 hours after use and ensure that you do not put too much pressure onto the cloth as it might tear. Also make sure they are completely dry before putting them away.

5) After washing, ensure that there are no stains before drying and storing the reusable sanitary pads. If there are stains, please treat them immediately using the stain removal method described below.

6) To remove oil-based stains: Moisten a cloth with odorless mineral spirits or white vinegar and lay it flat on top of the stained area for 15 minutes to one hour (the longer you leave it, the better). Then place another clean cloth over the mineral spirits/vinegar moistened cloth; now set your iron at medium heat (no steam) and iron back and forth over the area until you see either the stain fade or disappear completely. Be careful as regular water can remove any leftover mineral spirits or vinegar.

7) If the stains still remain, then you can use hydrogen peroxide. Soak a cloth in hydrogen peroxide and lay it flat on top of the stained area for 15 minutes to Cloth Pads one hour (the longer you leave it, the better). Then place another clean cloth over the hydrogen peroxide moistened cloth; now set your iron at medium heat (no steam) and iron back and forth over the area until you see either the stain fade or disappear completely. Be careful as regular water can remove any leftover hydrogen peroxide.
