Nestled high in the Tirthan Valley of Himachal Pradesh, the temple of Goddess Kurukulla in the village of Kotla (Banjar Valley) is a remarkable spiritual destination deeply embedded in the Himalayan Siddha-tradition. The temple stands as a living link to the ancient tantric lineage of the Kaulantak Peeth, where the Goddess is worshipped as the Kula Devi — the supreme feminine power who manifested for the reception of Tantric knowledge.
Beyond its natural beauty, the site is distinguished by its rich ritual culture: the temple upholds rare forms of worship including the “Deva Ratha” (divine chariot-palanquin) of Kurukulla, traditional female shamans (Bhāravīs) who carry the living legacy of the Goddess’s healing and esoteric practices, and a remarkable union of folk and tantric traditions unique to this valley.

Accessed via a link road from NH-21 near the Aut Tunnel, the journey to the temple itself becomes a pilgrimage through wooded slopes and mountain vistas — reminding visitors that this isn’t just a temple, but a portal into a living Himalayan spiritual ecosystem.
Kula Devi
Thus, the Kurukulla Temple at Kotla is much more than a scenic Himalayan sanctuary — it is a vibrant centre of spiritual heritage, mystery and devotion, inviting those drawn not only by the beauty of the valley but by the deeper call of the Goddess.

“A month has passed, but the work of removing the soil and massive rocks that fell from the mountain at the Kurukulla Temple is still ongoing. It is estimated that this work will continue for several more months. You can see for yourself how huge the rocks are—some of them cannot be removed at all. Therefore, to break these rocks, special experts have been called in, and they are being shattered using controlled explosions. This is a time-consuming process, and lakhs of rupees will be spent like water just on removing the debris of soil and stones. Due to the explosions, the temporary guesthouse building has been completely damaged. Nevertheless, the work continues day and night.”

After the worship rituals and recitation at the temple located at the ‘Siddha Mahavidya Peeth’, the Kalash (sacred pinnacle) has been installed. On this occasion, a Yajna ceremony and community feast were organized. Due to the long period of temple reconstruction, devotees had been deprived of having darshan.
At this temple dedicated to the Ten Mahavidyas, local women organized bhajan and kirtan in the evening. The ‘Siddha Mahavidya Peeth’ is now open to the general public.
